Every year the wildly popular Almost Famous Players select two communities from the MANY that request a performance, and this year we are fortunate to have had Teeswater selected!
The Almost Famous Players is a dance/musical theatrical group consisting of 27 members all labelled with a developmental and/or physical disability.
The Almost Famous Players program began in the fall of 2004 as a service offered by the Wingham & District Community Living Association, under the direction of Julie Kuik (staff member).
The Almost Famous Players didn’t come into existence quickly and easily. It was born – like all great projects – in humble beginnings. This group – which is really a big bundle of energy, is the result of a whole lot of watching, listening and then doing. The group’s success required inspiration, hard work, determination and a bit of luck…and maybe, just maybe – a touch of magic. Magic is all about what the eye can’t see. In this case, the magic is the result of the positive energy that the players receive from the many dedicated volunteers, parents and community members who have lifted them higher every year.
A shared passion for performing pulled this diverse group of individuals together. They dreamt about showcasing their special talents on the big stage. They all wanted to be a part of their community, to promote awareness and to fulfill their desire to give back to all those who have helped them reach this point.
