It has been several months since the community meeting in Formosa to establish the interest in a business association for the Municipality of South Bruce. A Mission Statement has been adopted as follows: The South Bruce Community & Business Association (SBCBA) is a group of community minded citizens dedicated to promotion and economic development within the Municipality of South Bruce. With this as a guide, the interim organizational committee has been working toward launching this endeavor.
An invitation is extended to all in the Municipality of South Bruce and the surrounding area to attend the Official Organizational Meeting to be held Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Formosa Community Hall. Presentations will be made by the interim committee to inform those in attendance of what has been put in place as recommendations and what direction is being followed to establish this organization. In order to actually launch the Association, elections to the Council will be held on that night. The Bylaws that have been drafted by the interim committee recommend that there be a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and four (4) other members of the Association to form the Council. Taking on one of these positions is a wonderful opportunity to have an impact and make a difference in your community. Once elected, this Council will have full authority to carry forward as the South Bruce Community & Business Association.
Membership applications will be accepted following the meeting, after the Council has been elected. The fees for the founding year have been kept low in appreciation that it will take some time to get the SBCBA up and running. As more services and benefits are developed and made available, an annual sliding fee will be put in place by Council. Initial memberships are as follows:
· Business: Agricultural/Retail/Commercial/Service/Other Business… $50
· Nonprofit Organizations… $25
· Individual/Affiliate Members (those who do not fit the above categories or are outside of the municipal boundaries)… $25
Membership packages will be distributed beforehand and will be available at the meeting. Donations to the SBCA that are not part of membership fees, such as designated funds, products or services, will be recognized and most definitely appreciated.
Members of the interim committee are doing their best to contact interested parties directly. This is a huge undertaking.
